how to: JUMPSUIT

Jumpsuits have definitely been trending for a while and now they are stronger than ever!  These one piece outfits are so comfortable and flattering, it's no wonder they have stuck around.  Problem is you probably bought a short sleeve, short pant jumpsuit for Spring/Summer.  But don't worry, it's easy to convert this look into a fall outfit.  Just throw the jumpsuit on over a pair of tights, put on some half boots, and a blazer.  To top it all off try a newsboy cap made out of a heavier material like wool.  Get this look with the Farron Elizabeth Short Jumper in Black or Brown, the Rails Newsboy Hat in Black or Mocha and the Marcello Toshi Capucha or Chacha.  Best part?  When spring rolls back around again just take all those layers off and you still have a great jumpsuit to wear!

Not into making all that effort?  Not a problem!  For an easy fall-ready piece, choose a long sleeve, long pant jumpsuit like the ecoSkin Star Stone Jumper in Black, Taupe or Raisin or the Farron Elizabeth Jumper with Belt.  Same great jumpsuit look with minimal effort!

get that look: ORANGE

Orange is such a striking color.  It is the perfect transitional color from summer to fall.  It embodies the hot summer sun and at the same time reflects the color of fall's turning leaves.  In other words, you can get a lot of mileage out of an orange garment!  Not to mention a great orange has a flattering reflective glow on the skin.

Jennifer Morrison of House M.D. fame looks incredible here in her orange Sonia Rykiel tube dress.  But let's be realistic, who can afford a Sonia Rykiel these days?  Not Joan.  But luckily Lizzie Parker has made some amazing and similar looks.  And even luckier is that they are currently on sale at Bad Joan!  To get Jennifer's look check out the Long Tube Dress and the Tube Dress/Skirt, both in a brilliant shade of orange!

this just in: PURP7E

Purp7e (pronounced: purple seven) is all about the knits. Soft, comfortable, and effortless! These new arrivals are all lightweight which makes them perfect for this transitional time of year. There is everything in this collection from simple "Robe" Cardigans to fashion pieces like the Shell Trim Capelet in Black or Natural.

JOAN'S PICK OF THE WEEK: The Dolman Top
You have to have this piece! It is roomy and loose so it will cover any bloating or "problem" areas. But at the same time it's very sexy because it's sheer and has incredible drape. There aren't that many of these in stock so it would be wise to act fast!

how to: LONG NECKLACE

Have you always wanted to wear a really long necklace but think you're not tall enough or are just plain intimidated? Don't be! A long necklace can take an outfit from basic to fabulous, so why should you miss out? Here are a few tips on how to make a long necklace work:

DO: wear it with something that is fairly simple down the front
DON'T: wear it with something that has a lot of detail on or around the neck

DO: wear it with something that is longer than the length of the necklace, like a dress or a long top that goes to the hips.
DON'T: wear it with a short top that ends before the length of the necklace.

DO: wear it with something that is flowy or fitted but without a defined waistline
DON'T: wear it with something that has a defined waistline or that goes in at the natural waist.

Right now on Bad Joan there are some great long necklaces by Lisa K, the Lace Cake Necklace in Pearl or Purple and the Soho Chic Necklace. Try these necklaces combined with any one of the following items for a fantastic look...

trend watch: DANCEWEAR

So You Think You Can Dance?, Dancing With The Stars, Fame, Footloose... It seems like everywhere you look these days people are obsessed with dancing! So it's no wonder there is so much dance inspired clothing out there.

Joan loves the dance look, especially a great pair of leggings! Lizzie Parker has hit the nail on the head, actually hit it twice, with a fresh take on leggings. The first hit is the High Waisted Leggings that have just a hint of tie dye at the ankle; two fun trends for the price of one! Next, are the Ruched Leggings which feature a ruched detail at the side of the calf and have a fold over waistband. So cute, flattering and different.

But dancing is not only about bottoms, you'll need a great wrap to "top" off the outfit. Lizzie Parker does it again with the Short Sleeve Cropped Cardigan. This tie cardigan is a great layering piece and lightweight enough so that you can still get your groove on!

get that look: STRIPES AND SOLIDS

Sienna Miller looks fantastic (as usual) strolling the streets of NYC in this classic summer look. She paired a simple striped tank with an adorable solid, ruffled skirt from her own clothing line, Twenty8Twelve, and added a hint of color with a bright beaded necklace.

You can get this same look just in time for your Labor Day getaway. Try the Rails Deana Striped Tank in Navy tucked into the Rails Short Eyelet Skirt in White. Top it off by doubling up the Lisa K. Ombre Necklace in Pink and, presto, you might as well be Sienna's twin (well, at least you'll be her outfit twin)!

trend watch: ZIPPERS

Zippers have been seen on the runway for some time now but they are finally hitting the streets in full force! You can find them on tops, bottoms, shoes, bags and anything else you can think of. Are they another throw back to the 80's? Or maybe it's an homage to Michael Jackson and his fabulous red leather jacket, zippers and all. Either way it's a fun, sexy trend and Joan is a huge fan!

Get zipped up with several offerings from Object of Desire. Try the Zipper Front Tank in Black or Purple or the Dolman Zipper Top or Dress. Not bold enough to wear a zipper down your chest? Not a problem, you can proudly "tote" the zipper trend anyway with the Tucker Paisley Molly Tote in a slew of colors (Olive and White seen above).

get that look: MINI DRESS

The red carpet at the Teen Choice Awards was full of celebs showing off their gorgeous gams in fantastic mini dresses. Joan's favorite look was Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester. Not only is Leighton a kindred spirit (she knows all about making "good girls go bad") but she looked amazing in a flattering mini that featured a square neck and subtle ruffle details. To top it off she paired the dress with sexy, color contrasting pumps. Well done!

Leighton probably paid a pretty penny for her outfit but it's a good thing that you know Joan! Get this flirty look at an affordable price... Try the Jenny Han Criss Cross Dress in Black or Blue, and to complete the look you'll need the Joya in Coral by Marcello Toshi.

All you need now is a red carpet!
