Cheerful Farmer's Market Visit

I had the most colorful and delicious farmer's market adventure yesterday! I tried a different farmer's market than my usual, and I'm definitely going back (it's the Hollywood Farmer's Market for all you LA locals out there). I found a ton of great stuff but my favorites were these "homegrown" looking cucumbers and tomatoes from a tiny little stand that had just a few items. The cucumber was so crisp and sweet and unbelievably tasty, and the tomatoes were like candy! I just ate everything raw, no dressing, no salt... nothing but the real thing...

Then I came across a stand that was selling bright and colorful gerber daisies for a ridiculously low price, so I grabbed a ton of them! I also added in a few sunflowers, which you can't see here, but basically it's the brightest/happiest bouquet ever...

All of the vibrant colors and mouthwatering flavors have definitely helped get my week off to a cheerful start! It's amazing how the simplest things can turn a mood around!

Hope you are having a wonderful week... and if not, then I hope these images at least brightened your day a bit! :)

Trinket by William Pope.L

I finally got a chance to go to the William Pope.L "Trinket" exhibit at The Geffen the other day, and it was definitely worth it! The main focus of the exhibit is a giant flag (approximately 54 x 16 feet) that is being blown by industrial fans, and is lit from both sides, as well as from underneath. It is a powerful piece to stand next to. There is a lot for the senses to take in... the large scale of the flag, the constant movement, the loud noise from the fans, and the change and flow of the lighting....

In addition to the flag, there are other rooms that display different works that tie into the central theme. Like thousands of onions painted in red, white, & blue (see below), painted canvases, and videos.

There was one piece, besides the flag, that really moved me titled "Blind." It is a large, open room and at the far end there is a black hole in the wall that has a black border painted around it, like a frame. I walked up to the hole, stared in, and all I saw was darkness. It felt both scary and full of possibility. Then on my way out of the room I saw the plaque explaining the piece (see below). I loved the concept so much that I had to go back and experience it for a second time.

To see the flag in motion click here...  And if you are in L.A. you still have a couple more days to see this amazing exhibit! Visit the MOCA website here for details.

PROJECTION by Vincent Lamouroux

"Projection" by artist Vincent Lamouroux, produced by Please Do Not Enter, is an amazing art installation project that is happening just a few blocks from where I live on the eastside of Los Angeles. The project consisted of covering the notorious "Bates Motel" in Silver Lake, and its surrounding palm trees and billboard, with an opaque white lime wash. I happen to pass by it as they were still in the process of painting. It was a gray/gloomy day in LA, which, in my opinion, made for a perfect, almost eerie setting to take a few images! Check it out...

Under Construction LA: IN BLOOM

I recently attended a beautiful event called IN BLOOM by Under Construction LA. They put on amazing, well-curated events that showcase unique fashion and art. The IN BLOOM event was all about flowers. There were incredible flower art installations all around the room done by the artist Karolina Maszkiewicz, as well as photographs by Sharlene Durfey, which featured a mix of floral and human subjects. It was the perfect event to welcome in the Spring/Summer season!

A few images of all the beauty around the room...

And these are the lovely masterminds behind Under Construction LA, Ravid Levy and Iliana de Boisblanc...

If you are in LA you should definitely follow them on Instagram so that you can find out about their next event! Or just follow them for some awesome inspiration!

MS Maital Ceramics Studio on 3rd

One of my favorite places in L.A. to visit is MS Maital Ceramics Studio on 3rd Street. I always feel so inspired there. You can buy pre-made pieces, OR you can make your own! There are classes that teach you how to use the pottery wheel, or you can make things freehand as well. And if you really get into it, you can sign up for a monthly membership which allows you to just come in all month long and create whatever you feel like! Sooooo much fun!

Here are some of favorite little nooks & crannies in the studio right now...

And this was my first attempt at making my own ceramic pieces... I think I have a little ways to go, but I had a great time during the process so that's what counts (right?!)... ;)

I love tea time in the afternoon.  A cup of hot tea and a bite of something sweet always makes my day!  My absolute favorite tea is from LAMILL.  They really make the most delicious loose teas and  I have not found anything else as good.  You don't need any extra flavor, no sugar, no honey, no milk.  As you can see above their ingredients are incredible.  These teas are almost too beautiful to drink... almost!

LAMILL is located in Silverlake, CA but you can also order their teas online HERE.

Fairy Tale Easter Egg Hunt

Every year I get invited to spend Easter with my friend Gina and her family.  They have the most unbelievable property here in Los Angeles with the most incredible garden setting.  There are rolling lawns, bridges covered in greenery, topiaries, and playful statues; it's like something out of a fairy tale!

It was the perfect place to spend a gorgeous Easter Sunday.  Everyone got to participate in the Easter Egg Hunt and the setting was just so beautiful I had to share it...

The last image is a statue of a girl reading a love letter and the letter is actually written out; how sweet is that?!

What did you do for Easter?

Snow White Ballet with costumes by Jean-Paul Gaultier

This weekend I had the pleasure of going to the ballet!  Angelin Preljocaj's performance of Snow White came to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in downtown Los Angeles.  The dancing was mesmerizing, and the use of lighting and music were perfect to create the fantastical and sometimes eerie mood.  AND the costumes, designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier, were incredible!  Check it out...

If you have a chance to see this performance you should definitely go!

this week: INSTAGRAM

Just a few Instagram highlights from this week...

I went to see my good friend, Lizzie Parker, show at Fashion Weekend in Los Angeles.  The show was at Sunset Gower Studios and was broadcast live on KTLA!  This pic is actually of the opening performance by a band called Hi Fashion, they put on a really cool show.

Then I went to the launch of the new Growze store on Larchmont in LA.  Great store, amazing clothes!  Just loved this display with a couple American Flag T-Shirts, a Fedora, and a shredded sweatshirt.

I also went to a party at a cool store on Sunset Blvd called Live On Sunset.  My friend Nony sells her line Petro Zillia there so we went to check it out.  Just loved this rack of bright neon clothes mixed with some denim.

And there were a few fabulous days of sun this week in LA so I walked around the neighborhood a lot.  I snapped this pic in front of the Pacific Design Center.  The gigantic chair statue looked so inviting at that moment!
